Happy New Year!

If we can't enjoy a white Christmas, at least we have a warm New Year! What? The two don't really relate. The forecast for NYE looks perfect - warm, dry and not windy (for a change). The weather will cooperate for all those DC kids heading to a big ol' party!

I am more excited about the weather for New Year's day! It could get into the 60s which means DC folks breaking out flip flops for the day bombing happening all over town. Nothing cures a hangover like a couple more drinks with friends....sitting outside. Love it!

Thanks again to all of my loyal readers! I hope my blog has kept you up-to-date on all the fantastic weather happenings!

Total Bull$*@#!

If this picture doesn't explain why I'm mad, I don't know how else to explain it. The whole Midwest and east coast got hit by snow....but not DC! WTF?! That little green pocket on the east is DC...

I battled the 40mph winds this morning to get to work only to find out that everyone who went home for xmas has not made it back yet b/c of the snow. I'm so mad!

The weather is going to warm up this week and hopefully by tomorrow the winds will die down. I'll check back in with some NYE updates.

Buenos Snowches

[Below is an entry from my Xmas host - a guest blogger]

Here's the deal. I know weather. If it wasn't clear by the title, I do.

Every day, I dial my verizon special weather announcers and they tell me what's in store for my day. This is a luxury people. I can hit a button and in 5 seconds have a familiar voice tell me what the barometric pressure is...not that I know wtf that means...but they help me plan my day.

So yes, it's true, they are my muse. But don't miss the point...I snow weather. I do. I effing snow it.

Here's what you tuned in for today. It is gonna snow. OMG it is gonna effing SNOW!!! Snomygod it is gonna snow. Like the kind of snow you have in the morning where you say 'holy snowflake jim bob' over coffee and buenos snowches at night.

If you work for the government, then snowverdoit and hit the hills with some wax paper and some cookie sheets. Just please, for the love of god, don't dress like you just got back from the slopes and are doing some snowboarding down 16th street...you know who you are...let it go.

If you are still expected to work during the snowpocalypse, well at least you got a little shout out on the first snowel.

Adeste Fideles

I can't miss an opportunity to display my Latin knowledge! No, really, I just thought it was funny and random.

Christmas is right around the corner and there is some talk of snow. I'm skeptical. We still have some snow on the ground from last week which is a nice festive touch for the holiday. I wouldn't mind some snow on Christmas. I'll be cozied up at Julie's house in Mt. Pleasant with friends, vino and good cheer.

Christmas looks like it will be cold...and the same goes for Ingrid's birthday. I hope the cold doesn't he keep her from enjoying her b-day with friends and family! XO

Cold As Ice

The cold temps are bad enough, but this wind is killing me! It's supposed to ease up later tomorrow, but for now, bundle up!

I really shouldn't complain though b/c I took a look at the weather in Kosovo. It's nice on Thursday when I arrive but by election day on Sunday (when I'll be on in and out of polling stations all day) it's going to be freezing! Like Ukraine-cold! Crap. Looks like I'll be packing my moon boots!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

It's going to be a chilly weekend. The talk of snow is merely at a whisper today, and even then the whisper is just about snow to the south of DC. Mostly, we will only see clouds and some cold temperatures. The good news - bourbon and pork is perfect for this kind of weather!

I'm So Excited

I just read about this on Capital Weather Gang. So cool! My weather tracking just got a bit more interesting!

(two posts in one day, that is exciting too!)

Against the Wind

In an effort to make Loftus happy, I'm going to try and continue naming my posts with song titles. Feel free to send me ideas!

I took a bit of a hiatus updating my blog so I went back to to read some of the old posts to get me pumped up. I noticed a number of things:

1) I need to proof read better

2) it rains a lot in DC

3) it gets hot in DC

4) I don't get many comments

Today the weather is....wait for it....rainy. It's also very windy (apparently there is talk of tornadoes??)! It's not cold, I think in the 60s right now, but that is all supposed to change tonight as temps drop into the 30s. I'm ok with the cold though, it's the rain that annoys me.

Tonight would be a good night for some red wine with friends!

Stormy Weather

I totally stole this bad ass pic from TBD. Apparently this rainy weather isn't going anywhere and people (i.e. the local news) are freaking out! It's a flood watch!
The real storm is supposed to hit DC this afternoon/early-evening and could take out some tree limbs...and there really is a flood watch in effect until Wednesday afternoon. I don't have good rain shoes and I don't think my moon boots are appropriate for this weather. I might freak out too!

Thunder Rolls

We got hit with an unimpressive storm last night. At least I assume it was unimpressive because I fell asleep. DC will be hit with more storms later today or tonight and potentially tomorrow too. It could turn out just to be heavy rain and not a real thunderstorm. I love thunderstorms.

In the meantime this humidity is kicking my ass. I was dripping sweat waiting for the bus this morning. That is always a great way to start the day!

Holy Hammock

It's nice to have some time off from work. I've spent the past 90 degree days reading in the hammock. It's not the same as lounging on the boat but it sure is relaxing! One more day left in Skantown....I'll have to take a swim before I leave.

Skantown or Bust

After a week-long heat wave in DC, it will be nice to escape to Skaneateles for some relaxation on the lake. The forecast is perfect for July 4!

Nats vs. Red Sox

I'm getting excited for Saturday to take in some springtime baseball with my Zhytomyr boys. I may not completely pay attention to the game, but drinking beers and asking annoying questions to bother my friends is always a good time!

Plus, the weather for the exhibition game is going to be fantastic - partly to mostly sunny and in the 80s!

Wos Reunite!

I am so freaking excited to see my friend Julia tomorrow. She's coming down from NYC and Julie James and I are meeting her on the rooftop of Perry's to catch up...and most likely gossip.

The rain today (and talk of snow...come on DC!) is a little intimidating, but my boys over at Capitol Weather Gang assure me that it will not rain tomorrow.

A Rainy St. Nikki's Day

While St. Nikki's Day is officially March 16, there will be some festivities the evening of March 13. Turns out there is going to be a lot of rain that day! I hope that doesn't put a damper on things....

Screw This, I'm Out of Here!

Today's sunny and warm(er) weather is getting me pumped to head to Puerto Rico on Thursday. I'm keeping an eye on this potential snow on Tuesday/Wednesday, but I don't think it will keep me from getting out of town. Knock on wood.

Scattered Snow?

DC missed the big storm that hit the rest of the northeast (enter argument about whether or not DC is in the northeast)....but it did not miss Skaneateles. Some readers may recognize this location as my parents' backyard. Yikes! I don't like the idea of my dad shoveling all of that!

Btw, I'm not comfortable with the description the forecasters are using - what does scattered snow mean? Doesn't snow usually scatter? We shouldn't see any accumulation but the wind is going to make it one heck of day! The weekend should be better. It will still be breezy but it's not the kind of wind that chokes you.

More Snow?

The forecast indicates more snow is headed this way. The real concern is the wind - guests could reach 50mph on Thursday. Add snow flurries to that kind of wind and you have blizzard-like conditions. It's hard to say how much snow will really fall, but I wouldn't mind enough to cover up the nasty left-over snow from the last storm.

Restless in the City

I think I have cabin fever - I've cleaned my room, made soup (from a recipe, not a can), took a nap, and have eaten roughly 100 hershey kisses.

The fed gov has closed down yet again. Day four of snow work!

I am looking forward to some non-snow weather so I can get out of my neighborhood. I like this area, but I'd love to see something beyond the nearby 3 blocks.

Snoverkill

Capital Weather Gang is referring to the impending storm as snoverkill...and I love it! If you are not reading that blog - do it! I don't think I'm committed enough to update this blog everyday.

Don't Blame the Snow Lovers

More snow is headed this way and now the pros are predicting 10 to 20 inches! If you watch the news, the excitement is gone and and newscasters seem annoyed by all the snow talk. I can't help but feel targeted. Just because I love the snow doesn't mean I'm doing anything wrong - it's not my fault it keeps snowing!

Snowly Crap!

The last 24 hours or so have been fun-filled by playing with the word "snow." SnOMG, snow doubt, snow way, etc. The favorite snow-ism I've heard though, that I sadly did not come up with myself, was "buenos snowches." hilarious!

Don't bother hitting the grocery store b/c from what I've heard, they are all cleaned out. However, if you like whole milk, you could take a shot at your local grocery store.

Enjoy the snow!

Bring Your Moon Boots to Work*

If you haven't heard about the storm heading toward DC....then you must not live here. It's all anyone is talking about (which I find hilarious). The comments on the Capital Weather Gang blog have been amazing!

So, the snow is supposed to hit in the afternoon on Friday and last through Saturday. DC could see 12-18 inches. No joke. Be prepared on Friday when you head to work - by the time you leave, there could be a good amount of snow already! I hope the Fed Gov calls for early dismissal so I can go home early!
If you can't tell from the photo - my boots are already at work!

*thanks Ingers for the post title!

He Saw His Shadow!

If you have looked at the weather forecast in DC it should be no surprise that the ground hog saw his shadow today. There is a chance of snow tonight - 1-3 inches. It's probably too early to say, but there could be snow on Friday as well.
I don't mind the snow, but I'm starting to get sick of the cold. Now that I have a real commute to work, i.e. waiting for the bus and then sitting on the bus all bundled up for 30 minutes, I look forward to more comfortable weather.

Moving Day

Now that Jamie has officially relocated to NYC, Sarah and I are moving into a new place on Thursday.

There is a lot of talk of snow this week, though yesterday's 60 degree weather makes that hard to believe. It looks like we'll escape the snow on our moving day, but there could be plenty on Friday and Saturday - should make unpacking an enjoyable and picturesque experience!
